Keep Smiling!

Have you ever known someone that was just perpetually happy?  You know, the one that smiles when you are mad or in a bad mood, the one that is in less than ideal circumstances, and still manages to smile more than you do?  I have…actually, I should say “I do.”  The person that I am speaking about is my father-in-law, Alan J. Christensen.  In Fall of 2006 he passed away after a long battle with Leukemia. Despite any of the hardships with the disease, he always managed to keep a smile on his face, which helped the rest of us try and do the same.  The end of any phone conversation, voicemail, email, letter, or personal conversation always ended in “Keep Smiling!”  It was, and is infectious.  His light-hearted demeanor always brought a smile to my face, and even as I type this up, I find a smile and a few tears of joy.

After a lot of thought my wife and I have decided to start The Keep Smiling Project where we will hold different fundraising events to help fund medical costs, family outings, or other costs for specific families in need.  Our family goal for 2012 is to be able to send a family on vacation where they can spend some time together and create some lasting family memories.  Currently we have two events on the calendar:

  1. The first is a Mommy and Me Sing and Play Group.  If you know my wife, you know that this will be a very well thought out and fun group.  If you have any toddlers, you will want to do this.  For more details, just follow the link as my wife can say it much better than I do.
  2. The second will be mini-photo shoots.  Each shoot will cost $100.00 and last approximately 30 minutes.  From the shoot you will receive a disc of 12-15 edits.  The entire $100.00 for the shoot, and any profits from prints that you may order will all be donated to The Keep Smiling Project.  The first of these mini-sessions will be on June 9, 2012 with time slots at 6:00, 6:40, 7:20, and 8:00PM.  We like to refer to the location as “The Poppies” and directions will be given upon scheduling a shoot.  Want to know what “The Poppies” looks like? Click here and here.  If you are interested in booking one of these times, please contact me above, or email  Sessions will be booked on a first-come, first-serve basis.  So, if you are interested, let us know as soon as you can.

Depending on demand, additional singing groups and mini-photo shoots will be scheduled. So, check back here for more updates.

** Please note The Keep Smiling Project is not a licensed charity or non-profit organization. It’s just our family’s little way of helping people in honor of  Alans memory. 100% of any money raised will go to help families effected by cancer and we will be openly and publicly accountable for how this money is spent so that you can share in the difference you are making by your donation. **
